Every GTA School Board, All in One Place

If you'd rather scan every board yourself instead of using the finder above, expand a category below.

Regular / Public School BoardsPeel, Toronto, York, Durham, Halton and French public boards.
Catholic School BoardsDufferin-Peel, Toronto, York, Durham, Halton and French Catholic boards.
IB, IBT and French Program SchoolsApplication-based programs, not address boundaries.

French Immersion

Offered inside the regular English public and Catholic boards above, tied to your home address, but only through a set application window each year (commonly November to February), not automatic enrollment like the regular boundary system.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Offered at a small number of specific secondary schools per board, by application, not by home address.

International Business and Technology (IBT)

A Peel-specific regional program (one of Peel's Regional Learning Choice Programs), entry at Grade 6 or Grade 9 by assessment test and grades, offered at select Peel elementary and secondary schools only. IBT is offered only within the Peel District School Board; other boards run similarly structured business or technology-focused regional programs under different names, not called IBT.

Important: These links are for buyer research only. Final school eligibility, program access and transportation rules must be confirmed directly with the board before making a purchase decision.

Reference tool

Fraser Institute school ratings: what they are and are not.

How it works

  • Rates Ontario elementary and secondary schools out of 10, published annually.
  • Based only on EQAO math and literacy test results, no other data.
  • Covers public, Catholic and many independent schools that write EQAO tests.

Limitations

  • Reflects test scores only, not programs, wellbeing, class size or diversity supports.
  • Tends to favour higher-income areas over school quality alone.
  • Doesn't rank many private, faith-based or under-tested schools.
  • The Fraser Institute itself recommends not using it as your only factor.

This is a reference only, not a Team Shah endorsement, and not a substitute for verifying with the school board.

Area examples

Neighbourhood examples families often compare.

These examples are not school-placement promises. They are starting points for comparing lifestyle, commute, property type and school-boundary research.

Brampton: Mount Pleasant

Often considered by buyers wanting newer homes, GO access, parks and family-oriented streets. Confirm school boundaries by exact address.

Brampton: Heart Lake

Established freehold neighbourhoods, parks and commuter access can appeal to families comparing space and daily routine.

Brampton: Credit Valley

Buyers often compare newer detached and semi-detached homes, budget comfort and commute patterns here.

Mississauga: Churchill Meadows

Popular with families comparing townhomes, detached homes, schools, parks and access to highways.

Mississauga: Streetsville

Offers a village feel, GO access and a mix of older and newer homes. Boundary checks are still property-specific.

Mississauga: Erin Mills

Often compared for schools, shopping, transit, highways, parks and a wide range of property types.

Toronto and GTA note

Toronto and GTA comparisons need a wider lens.

Practical note: A Toronto or GTA neighbourhood can look perfect on a map and still be difficult if commute, parking, transit, childcare, school-boundary rules or property type do not fit your life.

Toronto buyers

Compare school board lookup results, commute time, TTC access, parking, home age, lot size, renovation needs and total monthly costs.

GTA buyers

When comparing Peel, Halton, York, Durham and Toronto, look beyond the headline price. Property tax, commute, insurance, transit and school rules may change the decision.

Buyer checklist

Property type

Compare detached, semi, townhouse and condo options by space, maintenance and resale fit.

Lifestyle fit

Look at parks, grocery, community centres, places of worship, healthcare, childcare and family support.

Future flexibility

Think about room to grow, work-from-home needs, renovations, parking, transit and resale demand.

Questions to ask

Questions before choosing a neighbourhood.

School and family questions

Which board applies to this exact address? Which grade level? Are programs, transportation or boundary rules subject to change? Does the school fit your child, not just the rating?

Home and commute questions

Can the budget handle this area? What property type is realistic? How long is the real commute? What trade-off are you making by choosing this neighbourhood?

FAQ

School & Neighbourhood Finder FAQ

Can Team Shah guarantee school placement for a home?

No. Team Shah cannot promise school placement or eligibility. School boundaries, programs, transportation rules and availability can change. Buyers must verify final eligibility directly with the applicable school board before making a purchase decision.

Should buyers check school boundaries before making an offer?

Yes. If school access matters to the purchase decision, check the exact property address with the school board before making or firming up an offer. A listing comment or neighbourhood name is not enough.

Can school boundaries change after buying?

Yes. School boundaries and program rules can change. Buyers should confirm current information with the board and understand that future changes are outside the control of the seller, buyer agent or listing agent.

What should families compare besides school boundaries?

Families should compare commute, budget, property type, transit, parks, childcare, future resale, daily routine and neighbourhood fit, not only school names.

Which Brampton neighbourhoods do families often compare?

Families often compare areas such as Mount Pleasant, Heart Lake, Credit Valley, Fletcher's Meadow, Springdale and Castlemore depending on budget, commute, property type and school-board research.

Which Mississauga neighbourhoods do families often compare?

Families often compare Churchill Meadows, Erin Mills, Streetsville, Meadowvale, Lisgar, Port Credit and Lorne Park depending on lifestyle, budget, commute and property type.

Can I choose a school outside my catchment area in the GTA?

Sometimes, through a school-choice or out-of-area transfer request, but it is not guaranteed. Transfers depend on space, program availability and board-specific rules, and priority is normally given to students living within the boundary. Confirm the current transfer policy with the applicable school board.

Does my address also determine French Immersion or specialized program eligibility?

Not always the same way it determines regular boundary eligibility. French Immersion, gifted, arts and other specialized programs often have their own catchment areas, application windows or lottery processes that differ from the regular school boundary. Verify program-specific boundaries and deadlines directly with the board.

What's the difference between IB, IBT and French Immersion?

IB (International Baccalaureate) is an advanced academic diploma offered at a few schools per board. IBT (International Business and Technology) is a Peel-specific business and technology program. French Immersion teaches part of the curriculum in French within the regular English boards. All three are application-based, not determined by home address alone.

Should I use Fraser Institute ratings to choose a home?

Use it as one reference point, not the deciding factor. Ratings are based only on test scores and don't reflect programs, wellbeing, class size or your child's individual fit. Compare it alongside commute, budget, property type and a school visit.
